Room-temperature Near-infrared Excitonic Lasing from Mechanically Exfoliated InSe Microflake

Chun Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates room-temperature near-infrared lasing from mechanically exfoliated.-phase indium selenide (InSe) microflakes free from external optical microcavities at a center wavelength of similar to 1030 nm. The lasing action occurs at the sub-Mott density level and is generated by exciton-exciton scattering with a high net modal optical gain of similar to 1029 cm(-1). Microdisks fabricated by a simple laser printing sustain the lasing with a reduced threshold, indicating InSe as a promising material for near-infrared microlasers in various applications.

Dual-coupling-guided epitaxial growth of wafer-scale single-crystal WS2 monolayer on vicinal a-plane sapphire

Jinhuan Wang et al.

Summary: Epitaxial growth of two-inch single-crystal WS2 monolayer films on vicinal a-plane sapphire surfaces has been achieved, driven by a dual-coupling-guided mechanism resulting in unidirectional alignment of WS2 islands. The high quality of WS2 monolayers is evidenced by a photoluminescent circular helicity of about 55%, comparable to exfoliated WS2 flakes. The findings offer the opportunity to boost the production of wafer-scale single crystals of various two-dimensional materials on insulators for applications in integrated devices.

High-Performance Near-Infrared Photodetectors Based on Surface-Doped InSe

Hanbyeol Jang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that surface doping with AuCl3 can enhance the performance of InSe photodetectors, surpassing previously reported 2D material-based infrared photodetectors. Investigation of InSe photodetectors with different structures provides insights into the photodetection mechanism and performance optimization. Additionally, encapsulation with hexagonal boron nitride dielectric enables long-term stability of the devices for up to 3 months.

Direct observation of highly confined phonon polaritons in suspended monolayer hexagonal boron nitride

Ning Li et al.

Summary: The study successfully measured and observed phonon polaritons in monolayer hexagonal boron nitride using monochromatic electron energy-loss spectroscopy, revealing highly confined and ultraslow group velocity characteristics. The large momentum compensation provided by electron beams also enabled phonon polariton excitation over the entire Reststrahlen band of multilayer hexagonal boron nitride.

Printable two-dimensional superconducting monolayers

Jing Li et al.

Summary: A mild electrochemical exfoliation method has been developed to synthesize large-size, high crystallinity two-dimensional superconductor monolayers, enabling the fabrication of twisted van der Waals heterostructures and printed films. This method yields 2DSC monolayers with unconventional Ising pair superconductivity and enhanced upper critical field, with NbSe2 achieving a high yield of large single-crystal monolayers up to 300 μm. The resulting twisted NbSe2 vdWHs exhibit high stability, good interfacial properties, and modulation of critical current by magnetic field interaction.

All van der Waals Integrated Nanophotonics with Bulk Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

Haonan Ling et al.

Summary: The article introduces the concept of all van der Waals photonics and discusses the potential applications of electronically bulk transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) semiconductors in nanoscale and integrated photonics. Bulk TMDCs may potentially outperform conventional 3D semiconductors, leading to smaller devices, more energy-efficient electro-optic modulators, and stronger quantum light-materials interaction. The enhanced optical performance, ease of integration, and wide range of materials selection suggest that bulk TMDCs may complement existing integrated photonics systems.

Recent progress in contact, mobility, and encapsulation engineering of InSe and GaSe

Himani Arora et al.

Summary: The field of two-dimensional materials, particularly III-VI monochalcogenides like indium selenide and gallium selenide, has attracted significant interest due to their high intrinsic mobility and direct bandgap properties. However, their sensitivity to environmental influences and limited scalable synthesis methods have hindered their practical applications. Research has focused on improving device structures and developing effective encapsulation techniques to prevent degradation.
