This study introduced an innovative formulation for PTFE-based sealant paste to improve sealing performance. The chemical composition, thermal properties, and hydrophobicity of the prepared paste were investigated. The results showed that the addition of PVB and nano-alumina significantly improved the sealing performance of the paste.
Sealant pastes are attracted research's attention due to the reusability of the pastes and higher sealing performance than the commercial polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tapes. In the present study, an innovative formulation for the PTFE-based paste sealant containing fibrous grease, base oil, calcium carbonate, and talc powder was introduced. In addition, the effect of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and Al2O3 nanoparticles on the sealing performance of the produced sealant paste was investigated. The chemical and crystalline composition of the prepared composites as well as the thermal properties of the sealant pastes were investigated using experimental analyses. Furthermore, the hydrophobicity of the produced pastes was evaluated by contact angle analysis, and finally, the hydrostatic pressure test was performed to study the sealing performance of the pastes. The obtained results revealed that the presence of PVB and nano-alumina in this composite led to improve the sealing performance of the paste, so that by placing the paste under the pressure of 35 bar for 1000 h, no leakage was observable in this sample.
