Sustainable management of the vine mealybug in organic vineyards

Arturo Cocco et al.

Summary: The vine mealybug poses significant challenges to grapevine cultivation worldwide, with traditional chemical control methods proving to be ineffective due to various factors such as insecticide resistance and high fecundity rates. Sustainable management strategies in organic viticulture, such as pheromone-mediated mating disruption and biocontrol projects, have shown promise in reducing VMB infestations. However, a multi-disciplinary approach integrating different control methods is necessary to effectively manage VMB populations in organic vineyards.
