Machine learning and in-silico screening of metal-organic frameworks for O2/N2 dynamic adsorption and separation

Yaling Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, machine learning-assisted high-throughput computational screening techniques were used to identify the best materials for O-2/N-2 separation at room temperature. The importance of transition metal elements in MOFs for separation performance was highlighted. Thirteen top-performing MOFs were identified for dynamic O-2 adsorption from air, with design strategies such as regulating topology and alternating metal nodes and organic linkers showing potential to enhance MOF performance.

A systematic examination of the impacts of MOF flexibility on intracrystalline molecular diffusivities

Yuhan Yang et al.

Summary: This study compared the self-diffusion coefficients of 12 adsorbates in MOFs with flexible and rigid frameworks, and found that framework flexibility has a significant impact on molecular diffusion. By introducing a descriptor to estimate loaded window sizes, a practical approach to qualitatively assess the influence of framework flexibility on molecular diffusion was provided.

Realizing the data-driven, computational discovery of metal-organic framework catalysts

Andrew S. Rosen et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are widely studied for challenging catalytic transformations due to their well-defined structures and high synthetic tunability. While MOFs are ideally suited for computational catalyst design in principle, the widespread use of data science and machine learning to accelerate the discovery of MOF catalysts has not been fully realized yet. This review provides an overview of recent work setting the stage for future high-throughput computational screening and machine learning studies involving MOF catalysts, along with discussions on current challenges and possible solutions for broader adoption of data-centric approaches in MOF computational catalysis.
