Sustainable Use of Sewage Sludge as a Casing Material for Button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) Cultivation: Experimental and Prediction Modeling Studies for Uptake of Metal Elements

Pankaj Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of sewage sludge in mushroom cultivation and its potential uptake of metal elements. The results showed that sewage sludge application significantly increased mushroom yield and enhanced the accumulation of metal elements. The constructed metal element uptake prediction models demonstrated high accuracy.

Kinetics and prediction modeling of heavy metal phytoremediation from glass industry effluent by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)

J. Singh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the effectiveness of water hyacinth in reducing heavy metals from glass industry effluent, with the most efficiency observed at 25% effluent concentration. Water hyacinth exhibited optimal growth performance while removing heavy metals, and prediction models were successfully used to forecast metal absorption by the plant.

Kinetic Studies on Delignification and Heavy Metals Uptake by Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) Mushroom Cultivated on Agro-Industrial Wastes

Pankaj Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of agro-industrial waste for sustainable production of Shiitake mushrooms. The results show that moistening the mushroom substrate with treated dairy plant and sugar mill wastewaters significantly increases nutrient levels and improves mushroom yield. A 50% concentration of both wastewaters produced the best results. In addition, kinetic studies using a first-order-based model accurately predicted substrate delignification and heavy metal uptake by the mushrooms.

Recent studies on applications of aquatic weed plants in phytoremediation of wastewater: A review article

Hauwa M. Mustafa et al.

Summary: Clean water is essential for human life, but with population growth and industrial development, many water sources in Malaysia have become polluted, requiring proper treatment of wastewater. Aquatic plants have the ability to remove contaminants from wastewater and have been widely used for this purpose due to their availability and effectiveness in removing pollutants.

Variations of Structural and Functional Traits of Azolla pinnata R. Br. in Response to Crude Oil Pollution in Arid Regions

Aya A. Mostafa et al.

Summary: The study revealed that crude oil pollution reduces the plant cover of Azolla pinnata, decreases chlorophyll content, alters carotenoid levels, and causes severe damage to chloroplast structure. The plant is not able to withstand high levels of crude oil pollution, and is recommended for use in slightly polluted freshwaters up to 0.5 g/L.

Phytoremediation of dairy wastewater using Azolla pinnata: Application of image processing technique for leaflet growth simulation

Madhumita Goala et al.

Summary: In this study, the phytoremediation efficiency of water fern in treating dairy wastewater was evaluated. The maximum reduction efficiency of pollutant parameters was observed at a 75% dilution of DWW. The combination of phytoremediation and image processing techniques can be used to monitor and enhance plant growth performance.

Influence of the Nitrate-N to Ammonium-N Ratio on Relative Growth Rate and Crude Protein Content in the Duckweeds Lemna minor and Wolffiella hyalina

Finn Petersen et al.

Summary: By testing different nitrate-N to ammonium-N ratios and dilutions, it was found that a ratio of 75% nitrate-N and 25% ammonium-N, with a dilution of 50%, yielded the best results for Lemna minor and Wolffiella hyalina. This ratio and dilution resulted in the highest relative protein yield per week and m(2) for both species.

Assessing the Plant Phytoremediation Efficacy for Azolla filiculoides in the Treatment of Textile Effluent and Redemption of Congo Red Dye onto Azolla Biomass

Sathish Sundararaman et al.

Summary: This study utilized Azolla filiculoides for the bioremediation of textile effluent and as a sorbent for removing CR9 dye. Results showed that the plant had subordinate responses to pollutants but effectively removed BOD, COD, and TDS from the effluent, as well as increased the removal rate of CR9 dye to 95%. The biomass was proven to be an efficient sorbent for the removal of CR9.
