Summary: The urbanization process in Africa is expected to double the city population by 2040, leading to important intra-urban land use dynamics with consequences on quality of life. This study uses satellite images to analyze urban land use changes and selected Addis Ababa as a case study to examine population density changes and unbalanced distribution of socio-economic amenities within the city. Urban development strategies have caused significant population density changes and unbalanced distribution of amenities.
