Hydrogen Production at a NiO Photocathode Based on a Ruthenium Dye-Cobalt Diimine Dioxime Catalyst Assembly: Insights from Advanced Spectroscopy and Post-operando Characterization

Emmanouil Giannoudis et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel NiO photocathode for photoelectrochemical water splitting for hydrogen production using a new dye sensitization approach. The fast desorption of dyad and low electron transfer efficiency leading to catalyst demetallation were identified as the main barriers limiting system performance and stability.

Influence of Surface and Structural Variations in Donor-Acceptor-Donor Sensitizers on Photoelectrocatalytic Water Splitting

Linda Nhon et al.

Summary: Conjugated organic chromophores composed of linked donor and acceptor moieties have been studied for photoelectrochemical applications. This work compares the properties of two D-A-D structural isomers, highlighting the impact of the position of the -COOH anchoring group on molecular conformation and photodriven water splitting reactions. The findings suggest that BTD2 outperforms BTD1 in terms of photocurrent generation at the anode, while both demonstrate similar performance at the cathode, indicating a potential advantage for further investigation in photocathodic studies.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Covalent Porphyrin-Cobalt Diimine-Dioxime Dyad for Photoelectrochemical H2 Evolution

Asterios Charisiadis et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and full characterization of the first covalently linked porphyrin-cobalt diimine-dioxime dyad (ZnP-Co), which was used to sensitize NiO films and evaluate the H2-evolving photoelectrochemical activity. The modest performances of the system could be explained through photolysis and post-operando characterizations, providing some guidelines for designing more efficient porphyrin-based assemblies.

Benzothiadiazole-based photosensitizers for efficient and stable dye-sensitized solar cells and 8.7% efficiency semi-transparent mini-modules

Maxime Godfroy et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the synthesis and structure-properties relationships of five benzothiadiazole-based organic dyes for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells. The compounds exhibit good Power Conversion Efficiencies ranging from 7.0% to 9.8%, with a combination of two leading to a PCE of up to 10.9% utilizing an iodine-based liquid electrolyte. Improved performance is linked to better light absorption and passivation of the TiO2 surface with a cocktail of dyes.
