Recent Advances in Visible-Light-Mediated Amide Synthesis

Bin Lu et al.

Summary: Visible-light photoredox catalysis has gained significant attention in the synthetic community due to its potential for sustainable and efficient activation of organic molecules. Amide synthesis through photoredox catalysis has become increasingly popular as it allows for the preparation of a wide variety of amides from halides, arenes, and alkanes using visible light irradiation. These methods offer an alternative to traditional amide synthesis strategies involving stoichiometric activating agents.

Direct Photocatalyzed Hydrogen Atom Transfer (HAT) for Aliphatic C-H Bonds Elaboration

Luca Capaldo et al.

Summary: Direct photocatalyzed hydrogen atom transfer (d-HAT) is a preferred method for the synthesis of aliphatic C-H bonds in organic compounds. Selective C-H bond elaboration can be achieved by choosing suitable hydrogen abstractors and reaction additives. This review provides a comprehensive survey of the synthetic applications of photocatalyzed d-HAT.

Photocatalytic Carbonylation Strategies: A Recent Trend in Organic Synthesis

Jitender Singh et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic radical carbonylation strategies have garnered attention in recent decades as a powerful tool in organic synthesis by incorporating carbon monoxide into organic molecules. These strategies rely on the generation of an acyl radical as a key intermediate, typically through high-intensity light-induced transition-metal catalysis or visible-light-induced photocatalysis.

Electron-Catalyzed Aminocarbonylation: Synthesis of α,β-Unsaturated Amides from Alkenyl Iodides, CO, and Amines

Baptiste Picard et al.

Summary: The aminocarbonylation of alkenyl iodides with CO and amines under heating results in good yields of alpha,beta-unsaturated amides. This catalyst-free method has good functional-group tolerance and provides a straightforward route to functionalized acrylamides. A hybrid radical/ionic mechanism involving chain electron transfer is proposed for this transformation.
