Mammography Image-Based Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Using Machine Learning: A Pilot Study

Maha M. Alshammari et al.

Summary: This study utilized machine learning techniques to assist radiologists in reading mammograms and classifying breast tumors. Features were extracted from the region of interest that radiologists manually annotated, and these features were incorporated into a classification engine to build models. The study found that optimized Support Vector Machine or Naive Bayes algorithms achieved 100% accuracy.

Breast cancer histopathological images classification based on deep semantic features and gray level co-occurrence matrix

Yan Hao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for breast cancer histopathological image recognition based on deep semantic features and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features. The experimental results show that this method performs better than pretrained baseline models in terms of image-level and patient-level recognition accuracy. The method also compares favorably with state-of-the-art methods.

Artificial Intelligence-Based Breast Cancer Diagnosis Using Ultrasound Images and Grid-Based Deep Feature Generator

Haixia Liu et al.

Summary: This article presents a new deep feature generation technique for breast cancer detection using breast ultrasonography (BUS) images. The proposed method uses pre-trained CNN models as feature generators and applies a grid-based approach to process the images. The experimental results demonstrate the high accuracy of this method in classifying ultrasonic images.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Skin Lesion Classification Based on Surface Fractal Dimensions and Statistical Color Cluster Features Using an Ensemble of Machine Learning Techniques

Simona Moldovanu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel approach for skin cancer recognition and classification by combining skin surface fractal dimension features and color area features, using kNN-CV algorithm and Radial basis function neural network model for classification. The experimental results showed that the proposed RBFNN model achieved significantly higher accuracy in skin cancer classification compared to the kNN algorithm. By incorporating fractal features with color features, a reliable classifier was created for accurate skin lesion classification.
