A Confinement-Driven Nucleation Mechanism of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles Obtained via Thermal Decomposition in Organic Media

Geoffrey Cotin et al.

Summary: Thermal decomposition is an efficient method for synthesizing nanosized metal oxides with controlled structures and properties. In the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles, the nucleation mechanism has been found to occur within vesicle-like nanoreactors, providing a new understanding of the synthesis process. This discovery paves the way for better control over the synthesis and properties of metal oxide nanoparticles.

The influence of l-aspartic acid on calcium carbonate nucleation and growth revealed by in situ liquid phase TEM

Mariana M. Longuinho et al.

Summary: In this study, in situ transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the effects of l-Asp on calcium carbonate nucleation and growth in liquid environments. It was found that l-Asp interacts strongly with calcium ions, limiting crystal growth and reducing the formation rate.

Structure Matters - Direct In-situ Observation of Cluster Nucleation at Atomic Scale in a Liquid Phase

Trond R. Henninen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nucleation reactions of sub-nm clusters of Pt in a liquid phase, revealing the influence of the presence of liquid-solid interface on the nucleation pathways. The results show that the initial cluster size and structure also play a role in determining the nucleation pathways of nanoparticles.

Atomic Mechanisms of Nanocrystallization via Cluster-Clouds in Solution Studied by Liquid-Phase Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy

Walid Dachraoui et al.

Summary: The study examined the early stages of gold nanocrystal growth using in situ liquid-phase scanning transmission electron microscopy. It found that nucleation begins with the formation of poorly crystalline nanoparticles, which then transform into monocrystals through a complex process involving multiple exchanges of matter between a crystalline-core and a disordered-shell. This growth process ultimately leads to the formation of monocrystalline nanoparticles.
