Effect of carbonation curing on durability of cement mortar incorporating carbonated fly ash subjected to Freeze-Thaw and sulfate attack

Anshuang Su et al.

Summary: This research investigates the improvement of durability in cement mortar under the coupled action of freeze-thaw and sulfate attack through the carbonation treatment and carbonation curing of high-calcium fly ash. The results show that the synergy of carbonation treatment and carbonation curing mitigates the deterioration of elastic modulus and compressive strength. In addition, carbonation curing improves the pore structure and decreases the permeability of the cement mortar specimens.

Compositions and microstructures of hardened cement paste with carbonation curing and further water curing

Min Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that the degree of carbonation affects the type of carbonation products, with excessive carbonation leading to the decomposition of C-S-H gel and coarsening of the pore structure. In subsequent water curing, reducing the carbonation time can prevent cement hydration while still refining the pore structure.

Effect of carbonation curing on sulfate resistance of cement-coal gangue paste

Ling Qin et al.

Summary: The paper investigated the effect of carbonation curing on sulfate attack resistance of cement-coal gangue (PC-CG) pastes, showing that accelerated carbonation can improve compressive strength, alleviate strength loss, and reduce expansion, leading to better durability of cement-based materials in sulfate attack regions.

Carbon dioxide utilization in concrete curing or mixing might not produce a net climate benefit

Dwarakanath Ravikumar et al.

Summary: Research shows that the net CO2 benefit of CCU concrete is more likely to be negative, with a net increase in CO2 in 56 to 68 of 99 scenarios. To increase the net CO2 benefit of CCU concrete, strategies such as increasing compressive strength and reducing electricity usage should be implemented.

Carbon capture in ultra-high performance concrete using pressurized CO2 curing

Anjaneya Dixit et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a novel approach to carbon capture and storage in UHPC, reducing its carbon footprint by replacing cement with GGBS and capturing CO2 in fresh mixes. Results show that carbon curing slightly decreases compressive strength but significantly improves carbonation in UHPC mixes.
