Critical slowing down in circuit quantum electrodynamics

Summary: This study explores the rich quantum activation dynamics and critical slowing down in an engineered superconducting quantum circuit, specifically in the intermediate bistable regime of the generalized Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian. A previously unidentified regime of quantum activation with saturation of critical slowing down is found, shedding light on the fundamental role played by the qubit in this regime through comparison with experimental results and various models.

Critical theory for the breakdown of photon blockade

Summary: Photon blockade is a phenomenon where strong photon-photon repulsion prevents a quantum optical system from absorbing multiple photons, occurring in a single atom coupled to a light field described by the Jaynes-Cummings model. The breakdown of photon blockade is associated with the spontaneous breaking of an antiunitary PT symmetry, with properties captured by a simple biased diffusion toy model. Approaching the critical point, the width of the steady-state distribution in Fock space diverges as a power law, allowing for the calculation of critical scaling of steady-state observables without mean-field theory.
