Optimization of heat exchanger design taking corrosion into account

W. Faes et al.

Summary: The design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers is typically based on standards, best practices, and experience. However, this may not always result in an optimal design. This paper proposes a method to evaluate the total cost of ownership of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger considering uniform corrosion and corrosion fouling. The results show that using a corroding material can lower the cost as long as the corrosion rate does not exceed a certain threshold.

Tanning Wastewater Treatment by Ultrafiltration: Process Efficiency and Fouling Behavior

Fu Yang et al.

Summary: Ultrafiltration is a promising and environmentally friendly alternative for treating tannery wastewater. Process efficiency is strongly influenced by operating conditions, while the membrane material has minimal impact on filtration performance and fouling behavior. Reversible resistance and cake formation are the main obstacles and pore-blocking mechanisms in the ultrafiltration process.

Usage of solar greenhouse evaporator to enhance dehydration and potable water extraction from tannery effluent

V. S. Vigneswaran et al.

Summary: The study aims to treat tannery effluent using solar energy with a greenhouse evaporator, increasing dissolved solids content and generating potable water. Results show that operating in Mode 6 achieved the desired dissolved solids content in the shortest time compared to other modes. The specific fuel consumption was low, and land area required was reduced significantly using the greenhouse evaporator.
