AWARENESS OF TREATMENT PROTOCOL WITH HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS

The current study investigated the knowledge and awareness of dental students in Chennai about the treatment protocol of Hodgkin's lymphoma. The results showed that the majority of students had a certain level of understanding about the disease, especially its common symptoms and diagnostic methods. This knowledge can help students in early detection and diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Introduction: Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of lymphoma which originates from lymphocytes. The most common presentation is painless and progressive enlargement of lymph nodes which is first detected in the cervical group on one side and then on the other. Hepatomegaly, enlarged lymph nodes and progressive anemia is seen whereas the special investigation includes CT scan, Chest X-ray, liver and spleen scan, bone scan and so on. Thus, The current study aims to detect the knowledge and awareness of the treatment protocol of hodgkin's lymphoma among dental students. Materials and Methods: Self-administered structured questionnaires were designed based on the knowledge and awareness of treatment protocol of Hodgkin's lymphoma among dental students. The questionnaire was distributed through online google forms link, the study population included 100 dental students in Chennai The data was collected and statistically analysed in SPSS of version 26.0.The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board. Results: In the current study 76.7% Second year dental students had participated in the survey among which 80.58% were aware about Hodgkin's lymphoma. Nearly 70.87% responded that Hodgkin's lymphoma is common in females. 66.02% responded that painless and progressive enlargement of lymph nodes are the most common presentation of the disease. In which 69.9% reported that retroperitoneal lymph nodes are most commonly involved which can be diagnosed with lymphangiography and computed tomography. Conclusion: Thus, the current study concludes the second year dental students had more knowledge about the treatment protocol of Hodgkin's Lymphoma which will help in prior diagnosis of the disease.
