TIPS for Adults Without Cirrhosis With Chronic Mesenteric Venous Thrombosis and EHPVO Refractory to Standard-of-Care Therapy

Gabriel M. Knight et al.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of TIPS for the treatment of chronic EHPVO, cavernomatosis, and mesenteric venous thrombosis in noncirrhotic adults. The results showed that TIPS is technically feasible and beneficial for most patients, with a need for improved patency rates and proper timing of anticoagulation therapy.

Recanalization of Chronic Noncirrhotic, Nonmalignant Splanchnic Thromboses is Feasible: A Transsplenic Assisted Patient-Tailored Approach

Adrian Kobe et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of recanalization for chronic noncirrhotic, nonmalignant splanchnic thromboses using a transsplenic assisted patient-tailored approach. The technical success rate was high, and the patency rate post-surgery was favorable.

The improvement in body composition including subcutaneous and visceral fat reduces ammonia and hepatic encephalopathy after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt

Stefania Gioia et al.

Summary: This study found that after TIPS procedure, not only muscle mass but also adipose tissue underwent changes. Improvement in subcutaneous adipose tissue, sarcopenia, and myosteatosis were associated with cognitive impairment improvement, independently of liver function. The correlation between adipose tissue and ammonia modification suggests a potential role of adipose tissue in ammonia trafficking between organs.

Sarcopenia and major complications in patients undergoing oncologic colon surgery

Michael Schneider et al.

Summary: This study found that lower muscle quality (SMRA) may be a better predictor of adverse outcomes than muscle quantity (SMA and SMI) after oncologic colon surgery. Factors such as major surgery, intraoperative blood loss, and intraoperative complications may be associated with major complications.
