A linkage disequilibrium-based approach to position unmapped SNPs in crop species

Seema Yadav et al.

Summary: A LD-based algorithm is proposed to allocate unassigned SNPs to chromosome regions from sparse genetic maps, with an average proportion of over 94% SNP accuracy in placing them to chromosomes in sugarcane, wheat, and barley. This approach can improve genome-wide association studies and genomic prediction in crop species with fragmented and incomplete genome assemblies, benefiting genomic-assisted breeding for orphan crops.

Environment characterization and genomic prediction for end-use quality traits in soft white winter wheat

Meriem Aoun et al.

Summary: End-use quality phenotyping in soft white wheat involves genotype x environment interaction, with high genetic correlations observed for grain and flour protein traits. Genomic selection has proven effective in optimizing breeding for most end-use quality traits, with high prediction accuracies achieved. Excluding outlier environments based on genetic correlations between environments improved genomic prediction accuracies for certain traits, highlighting the potential for genomic selection in enhancing breeding programs for superior end-use quality in soft white wheat.
