Topological Magnons: A Review

Paul A. McClarty

Summary: At low temperatures, magnetic materials exhibit collective magnetic excitations, and recent research has provided new insights into the geometry and topology of these excitations based on progress in topological materials. These magnetic excitations can be used to study the interplay between magnetic symmetries and topology, induce topological transitions with magnetic fields, and generate topologically protected spin currents at interfaces.

Photoinduced Floquet topological magnons in a ferromagnetic checkerboard lattice

Zhiqin Zhang et al.

Summary: This theoretical work investigates laser-irradiated Floquet topological magnon insulators on a two-dimensional checkerboard ferromagnet and their topological phase transitions. It shows that changing the light intensity can transform the topological magnon insulator and control the Floquet thermal Hall conductivity.

Topological insulators and semimetals in classical magnetic systems

Z. -X. Li et al.

Summary: This article discusses the pursuit of topological phases in natural and artificial materials, particularly in the context of classical magnetism. It provides an overview of current progress in studying topological insulators and semimetals in magnon- and soliton-based crystals, highlighting the importance of understanding the topological nature of magnons and magnetic solitons. The article also touches on the potential applications of topological properties in designing robust spintronic devices.

Insights on magnon topology and valley-polarization in 2D bilayer quantum magnets

Doried Ghader

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates magnon topology and magnon valley-polarization in layered 2D magnets, exploring the effects of magnetic spin-orbit couplings, magnetic ground states, stacking order, and inversion symmetry breaking on topological phases, magnon valley transport, and Hall and Nernst effects. It provides insights into the nature of spin-orbit couplings and predicts unconventional conductivities in topologically trivial phases, while also reporting on novel bandgap closures in layered antiferromagnets with detailed topological implications.

Topological magnon insulators in two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnets CrSiTe3 and CrGeTe3: Toward intrinsic gap-tunability

Fengfeng Zhu et al.

Summary: The study reports the realization of topological magnon insulators in CrXTe3 compounds, confirming the nontrivial nature of gap opening at the magnon band-crossing Dirac points and the emergence of corresponding in-gap topological edge states. This class of remarkable 2D materials is expected to lead to new technological applications in magnonics and topological spintronics.

Topological magnon insulator spin excitations in the two-dimensional ferromagnet CrBr3

Zhengwei Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, topological magnons in a two-dimensional ferromagnet CrBr3 were investigated using inelastic neutron scattering. By combining experimental measurements and theoretical calculations, the researchers demonstrated that CrBr3 is a topological magnon insulator, with the nontrivial gap attributed to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction.
