Anti-Poiseuille flow: Increased vortex velocity at superconductor edges

T. Okugawa et al.

Summary: Using the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, the study investigates vortex motion driven by an applied current in two-dimensional superconductors with a physical boundary. The results show that the vortex lattice exhibits different motion patterns, including collective movement, channeling, and stick-slip motion, depending on the magnitude of the sourced current.

Nonmonotonic Temperature-Dependent Dissipation at Nonequilibrium in Atomically Thin Clean-Limit Superconductors

Avishai Benyamini et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of vortex motion on resistance in clean-limit atomically thin 2H-NbSe2, revealing a nonmonotonic change in resistance as temperature decreases, with a minimum before increasing. A new vortex model is proposed to explain this phenomenon, providing a fresh perspective on fundamental questions of vortex mobility and dissipation in superconductors.

Colloquium: Nonthermal pathways to ultrafast control in quantum materials

Alberto de la Torre et al.

Summary: Recent progress in utilizing ultrafast light-matter interaction to control the macroscopic properties of quantum materials is reviewed, focusing on photoinduced phenomena that are nonthermal in nature. These phenomena involve transient modifications to the free energy landscape, redistribution of quasiparticle populations, modification of coupling strengths, resonant driving of the crystal lattice, and coherent dressing of a material's quantum states by the light field. Discussing recently discovered effects leveraging these mechanisms and presenting a road map for utilizing nonthermal pathways to create new functionalities.
