Chemical Transformations of Colloidal Semiconductor Nanocrystals Advance Their Applications

Vladimir Lesnyak

Summary: Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are increasingly used in optoelectronic devices, but their potential is still not fully utilized due to the need for more controllable properties in different semiconductor nanomaterials. Chemical transformations, such as ligand and cation exchange reactions, can greatly modify the properties of semiconductor NCs, allowing for adjustments to the surface and core composition and expanding the range of properties for further incorporation into optoelectronic devices.

Operando Investigation of the Aging Mechanism of Lead Sulfide Colloidal Quantum Dots in an Oxidizing Background

Tamara Russ et al.

Summary: Lead sulfide (PbS) is a p-type semiconductor frequently used in photodetectors and solar cells, but its performance may decrease when operated in air. Despite extensive research on the aging of PbS, the factors influencing the process and material changes are still debated. Residuals of the stabilizing agent oleic acid at the surface of colloidal quantum dots have been found to predominantly influence the aging mechanism, with a byproduct of the oleic acid consumption enhancing the sensor signal.
