Impact of fully coherent energy loss on heavy meson production in pA collisions

Francois Arleo et al.

Summary: Medium-induced fully coherent energy loss (FCEL) suppresses hadron production in proton-nucleus collisions. We find that the quenching of D and B mesons in pPb collisions solely due to FCEL is comparable to other nuclear effects. This highlights the importance of including FCEL effects for a reliable understanding of hadron production measurements in pA collisions.

Proton-PDF uncertainties in extracting nuclear PDFs from W± production in p plus Pb collisions

Kari J. Eskola et al.

Summary: This study discusses the measurement of W-+/- boson production in p+Pb collisions and its impact on nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs). It is found that the present data uncertainties have little effect on the extraction of nuclear modifications. However, it becomes more important to propagate the uncertainties of the proton PDFs in the future.

NNLO nuclear parton distribution functions with electroweak-boson production data from the LHC

Ilkka Helenius et al.

Summary: New nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) are presented at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD, based on a combination of deeply inelastic scattering data and experimental data from LHC collisions. The analysis includes fitting a set of proton baseline PDFs within the same framework. Results show good agreement with the included data and lower chi(2)/N-dp value at next-to-next-to-leading order. Application of the nuclear PDFs to electroweak boson production in LHC Pb + Pb collisions is compared to recent ATLAS and CMS data.

nNNPDF3.0: evidence for a modified partonic structure in heavy nuclei

Rabah Abdul Khalek et al.

Summary: This paper presents an updated determination of nuclear parton distributions (nPDFs) through a global NLO QCD analysis of hard processes. It takes into account data from fixed-target lepton-nucleus and proton-nucleus experiments as well as collider proton-nucleus experiments. The constraints from various measurements are considered for the first time in a global nPDF analysis and applied to both the nuclear PDFs and the free-proton PDF baseline. The results show evidence of nuclear-induced modifications to the partonic structure of heavy nuclei and have important implications for ongoing and future experimental programs.

EPPS21: a global QCD analysis of nuclear PDFs

Kari J. Eskola et al.

Summary: We present an updated global analysis of collinearly factorized nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) at next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD, including more data from proton-lead collisions and Jefferson Lab measurements. The analysis provides better-constrained gluon distributions and confirms the presence of shadowing and antishadowing effects in large nuclei. The uncertainties of nuclear PDFs due to the errors in the baseline proton PDFs are explored within the Hessian framework.

Parton distributions and lattice-QCD calculations: Toward 3D structure

Martha Constantinou et al.

Summary: The theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) describes the strong force binding hadrons together. Parton distribution functions (PDFs) have been successful in describing collinear partons within hadrons, but new experiments are exploring the transverse structure using generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs). Different methods, including perturbative QCD factorization theorems and lattice-QCD calculations, are used to determine PDFs and generalize the understanding of hadron structure.

Impact of inclusive hadron production data on nuclear gluon PDFs

P. Duwentaester et al.

Summary: A precise knowledge of nuclear parton distribution functions is crucial for interpreting hard process data in pA and AA collisions. Current fixed target data mainly constrain light quark distributions, therefore it is important to include more collider data, especially for gluon distribution at small x. By extending the nCTEQ15 analysis to include SIH data, the impact on PDFs is studied in comparison to existing sets, representing a step towards the next generation of PDFs.

Nuclear parton distribution functions with uncertainties in a general mass variable flavor number scheme

Hamzeh Khanpour et al.

Summary: In this article, a new set of nuclear parton distribution functions (nuclear PDFs) is obtained at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative QCD. The study analyzes common nuclear deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) data along with charged-current neutrino DIS data and Drell-Yan cross section measurements for several nuclear targets. The results show that the set of nuclear PDFs provides a very good description of the fitted cross sections.

Reweighted nuclear PDFs using heavy-flavor production data at the LHC

Aleksander Kusina et al.

Summary: The reweighting of nuclear PDFs using heavy-flavor meson data from proton-lead collisions at the LHC leads to significantly reduced uncertainties and validation of the approach through comparison with other experimental data. This indicates the potential of using reweighted PDFs to describe heavy-flavor data within a standard framework.

Extending nuclear PDF analyses into the high-x, low-Q2 region

E. P. Segarra et al.

Summary: In this study, the nCTEQ analysis framework was used to investigate nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) in the large x and intermediate-to-low Q region. New phenomenology was introduced by relaxing W and Q cuts in the analysis, leading to the development of a new nPDF set (nCTEQ15HIX) that provides a good description of recent JLab data and reduces uncertainties at large x, particularly for up and down quark flavors.

New CTEQ global analysis of quantum chromodynamics with high-precision data from the LHC

Tie-Jiun Hou et al.

Summary: The new parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the CTEQ-TEA collaboration are determined using a wide variety of high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, in addition to other datasets. These PDFs are analyzed at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order, with error sets determined using the Hessian method. The data sensitivity and preference towards quantities such as α(s)(m(Z)), and the gluon and strange quark distributions are quantified using fast PDF survey techniques.
