Biomimetic multifunctional persistent luminescence nanoprobes for long-term near-infrared imaging and therapy of cerebral and cerebellar gliomas

Jianglong Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, a NIR PL nanoparticle TRZD was synthesized, which exhibited excellent rechargeable NIR PL in vivo and could be used for long-term autofluorescence-free imaging. TRZD could inhibit the tumor growth of glioma models and provide a promising multifunctional nanoparticle for theranostics of brain diseases.

o-Carborane-based fluorophores as efficient luminescent systems both as solids and as water-dispersible nanoparticles

Sohini Sinha et al.

Summary: This study presents a series of pi-conjugated fluorophores appended with o-carborane and investigates their light-emitting properties in the solid state. The AIEE effect observed in one fluorenyl derivative enables the successful preparation of o-carborane-containing organic nanoparticles (NPs) with homogeneous dispersion in aqueous media, while maintaining their luminescence properties. Notably, the thin films of the NPs also exhibit high fluorescence efficiency, indicating potential for optical and optoelectronic applications.

Recent Advances in the Synthesis of High Boron-Loaded Nucleic Acids for BNCT

Darya Sergeevna Novopashina et al.

Summary: Boron clusters show promise as therapeutic tools for BNCT due to their high boron content, stability, and low toxicity. By developing oligonucleotide constructs with boron clusters, high boron-loaded agents can be created that interact specifically with nucleic acids in cells, offering new possibilities for BNCT treatments.

Theranostics in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

Wolfgang A. G. Sauerwein et al.

Summary: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) has the potential to destroy tumor cells specifically without harming surrounding tissues. The current inability to non-invasively measure the B-10 concentration in specific tissues relies on the imprecise assumption of fixed uptake of B-10 from blood into tissues.

Summary: This study investigated the use of boronic acid functionalized DNDs as an anticancer agent for BNCT, demonstrating promising results in in vivo experiments by showing accumulation in tumors and efficacy upon neutron irradiation. The scalable and reliable process of introducing phenylboronic acid moiety to polyglycerol modified DNDs make them a potential candidate for BNCT as an anticancer nanodrug.

Summary: In this study, zinc gallate-based persistent luminescence nanoparticles coated with a variant of pH-low-insertion peptide (pHLIP) were developed for cancer detection and diagnosis. Results indicated that these nanoparticles exhibited faster and more precise uptake in the acidic tumor environment compared to other organs. Experiments on mice showed successful tumor targeting within a short period of time.
