Understanding the oxidation kinetics of (Ti0.8Nb0.2)C and (Ti0.8Nb0.2)C-SiC composite in high-temperature water vapor

Yongqiang Tan et al.

Summary: (Ti0.8Nb0.2)C and its composite exhibit high oxidation resistance in water vapor. The addition of SiC further enhances the oxidation resistance. The formation of oxidation scales is mainly controlled by the outward diffusion of metal elements through the interstitialcy mechanism. Dense oxidation scale and SiO2 layer contribute to the improved oxidation resistance.

Oxidation behaviors of (Ti1-xNbx)C ceramic solid solutions

Dan Yu et al.

Summary: The oxidation resistance of (Ti1-xNbx)C ceramic solid solutions was found to be significantly influenced by the niobium content, with an optimization achieved in (Ti0.8Nb0.2)C. The presence of Nb-doped rutile TiO2 phase in the oxidation layer of (Ti0.8Nb0.2)Cwas attributed to the higher oxidation resistance, which effectively slowed the outward diffusion of titanium during oxidation.

Diverse oxidation behaviors of metal carbide solutions in high-temperature water vapor

Yongqiang Tan et al.

Summary: Carbide solid solutions exhibit diverse oxidation behaviors and kinetics in water vapor environment at 1000-1400 degrees C, with differences in oxidation rate laws and transitions between linear and parabolic rate laws observed. The presence of dense Nb-doped TiO2 oxidation layer is responsible for the high oxidation resistance observed in (Ti,Nb)C.

Oxidation resistance of (Hf-Ta-Zr-Nb)C high entropy carbide powders compared with the component monocarbides and binary carbide powders

Yichen Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the (Hf-Ta-Zr-Nb)C high entropy carbide exhibits better oxidation resistance and particle stability during oxidation compared to the component monocarbides. The results also showed that although (Hf-Ta)C has a higher oxidation onset temperature than HEC4, its particles disintegrate during oxidation, while HEC4 particles maintain greater structural stability.
