Evaluation of Therapeutic Effects of Quercetin Against Achilles Tendinopathy in Rats via Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, Apoptosis, Autophagy, and Metalloproteinases

Halil Sezgin Semis et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of quercetin against collagenase-induced tendinopathy, finding that collagenase injection triggers oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and autophagy, and activates MMPs, ICAM-1, and STAT3. Quercetin was able to reduce ICAM-1 levels, as well as exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and antiautophagic effects, while also suppressing MMP expression in tendon tissues, demonstrating its protective properties against collagenase-induced tendon damage in rats.

Allergy-induced systemic inflammation impairs tendon quality

Christine Lehner et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that systemic inflammation accompanying allergic conditions negatively affects tendon structure and function. The research findings from mice and humans show that allergic reactions induce a reduction in tendon elasticity and tensile stress, as well as alterations in the tendon matrix. Furthermore, individuals with allergies are more likely to develop tendinopathy.

The effect of fibrin clot and C vitamin on the surgical treatment of Achilles tendon injury in the rat modelk

Malik Celik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of fibrin clot and vitamin C in the healing of Achilles tendon ruptures in a rat model. Results showed that fibrin clot with vitamin C accelerated healing process, improved tendon structure biomechanically and enhanced histological and biochemical tendon quality.

Tendinopathy

Neal L. Millar et al.

Summary: Tendinopathy is a complex pathology of the tendon characterized by pain, decline in function, and reduced exercise tolerance. Diagnosis is mainly clinical, but sometimes pain-provoking tests and imaging are necessary. Management includes exercise programmes, therapeutic modalities, and surgical interventions but their effectiveness is still unclear. Future research should focus on understanding key functional pathways in the clinical disease and improving rehabilitation protocols.

Do NSAIDs Really Interfere with Healing after Surgery?

Stephan A. Schug

Summary: NSAIDs are an important non-opioid component of multimodal perioperative analgesia, but their potential harmful effects on healing after surgery and trauma remain controversial. Current animal data suggest potential harm, but are contradictory, while human data are limited and of poor quality. Well-designed and large randomized controlled trials are needed to provide definitive answers on the use of NSAIDs postoperatively.

The Role of Hyaluronic Acid in Sport-Related Tendinopathies: A Narrative Review

Sergio Crimaldi et al.

Summary: Tendinopathy is a complex clinical condition that is becoming more common, particularly during sports. The ultimate goal of treatment is the adequate functional and structural recovery of the tendon to prevent recurrence. While hyaluronic acid injections have shown effectiveness, further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm these findings.
