Bilateral Asymmetry in Balance Control During Gait in Children with Treated Unilateral Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Summary: This study examines the balance control during level walking in children treated for unilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The results show compromised balance control strategies in these children, with different strategies on both sides of the body, and the alterations occur not only during stance in the frontal plane but also during swing in the sagittal plane. The findings suggest the importance of routine assessment of both affected and unaffected hips for early identification of any signs of hip problems, deteriorating balance control, or increased risk of loss of balance.

Acetabular Edge Loading During Gait Is Elevated by the Anatomical Deformities of Hip Dysplasia

Summary: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is associated with higher acetabular edge loading (AEL) during gait, particularly in regions where the shallow acetabular edge is close to the hip joint reaction force direction. This elevated AEL is strongly correlated with the severity of acetabular deformities in individuals with DDH.
