In this study, imidazole derivatives bearing dibenzo[a,j]xanthene moiety were synthesized through a simple and convenient reaction method. These compounds exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria but showed limited efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria.
A new and simple way for synthesis of imidazole derivatives bearing dibenzo[a,j]xanthene moiety, in one-pot four-component reaction from 2-naphthol, terephthalaldehyde, benzil derivatives, and ammonium acetate in presence of Choline chloride: 2 ZnCl2, as a green and reusable catalyst is described. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized compounds against standard Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus lotus), and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) was investigated. To determine minimum concentration of growth inhibitor (MIC) and minimum lethal growth concentration (MBC), the microbroth dilution method was used. These compounds possessed significant antibacterial effects against Gram-positive but not against Gram-negative.
