The effect of dilution on induced free charge density gradients in room temperature ionic liquids

Md Iqbal Hossain et al.

Summary: We report on the changes in the magnitude and length scale of the induced free charge density gradient, rho(f), in three imidazolium room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) with dilution by methanol and acetonitrile. The collapse of rho(f) is seen to correlate with the onset of RTIL ion pair dimer formation, suggesting a possible mechanism for enhanced ion mobility in the binary system.

Charge-Induced Birefringence in a Room-Temperature Ionic Liquid

Yufeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports on the surface charge-induced free charge density gradient and refractive index gradient in room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), as well as the relationship between the two. It demonstrates a modulation of refractive index of approximately 15% proportional to the surface charge density, providing new insights into the utility of RTILs for electro-optic applications.

Local and Long-Range Organization in Room Temperature Ionic Liquids

Yufeng Wang et al.

Summary: Room temperature ionic liquids have wide-ranging current and potential applications due to their unique physical and chemical properties, but the extent of their organization and potential applications are still not fully understood. Opportunities lie in deepening our understanding of their organization and exploring potential applications that could benefit from such knowledge.

Observation of the Pockels Effect in Ionic Liquids and Insights into the Length Scale of Potential-Induced Ordering

Shogo Toda et al.

Summary: Electric potential induces ordering of ILs near the IL-electrode interface, resulting in uniform intensity changes in Raman difference spectra. This effect contrasts sharply with previous observations on molecular liquids. The experimental results reveal a ordering length scale in ILs of tens to hundreds of nanometers, extending beyond the electrical double layer but not reaching a micrometer scale.
