Katinka Albrecht et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the impact of tooth loss/periodontitis on disease activity in early and established RA. The results showed that tooth loss was associated with higher disease activity and inflammation markers, but did not hamper treatment response.

The burden of root caries: Updated perspectives and advances on management strategies

Mohammed S. AlQranei et al.

Summary: Root caries has gained attention due to aging population and increased retention of teeth. It is a multifactorial disease with cariogenic species less dependent on carbohydrates. Prevention involves patient education, risk factor modification, and remineralisation tools. Non-invasive approaches are recommended due to poor survival rate of restorations.

The Challenge of Medication-Induced Dry Mouth in Residential Aged Care

William Murray Thomson et al.

Summary: Dry mouth is more prevalent among older people, with polypharmacy being the major risk factor. The more medications taken, the higher the likelihood of dry mouth, impacting oral health and quality of life. Collaboration among pharmacists, doctors, and dentists to prevent and treat dry mouth is essential.

Multimorbid disease trajectories for people with periodontitis

Harriet Larvin et al.

Summary: The study found that participants with loose teeth had a shorter median time to develop multiple systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and depression. Participants with bleeding/painful gums had similar disease trajectories as matched controls. Self-reported periodontitis may be associated with early and frequent multimorbidity development.

Socioeconomic inequalities in prevalence and development of multimorbidity across adulthood: A longitudinal analysis of the MRC 1946 National Survey of Health and Development in the UK

Amal R. Khanolkar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate multimorbidity trajectories and quantify socioeconomic inequalities based on childhood and adulthood socioeconomic position. It found that multimorbidity increased with age and individuals with lower socioeconomic status had a higher number of health conditions. Adverse socioeconomic position was associated with more rapid accumulation of multimorbidity.

Inflammatory parameters and pulmonary biomarkers in smokers with and without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Elena Andreeva et al.

Summary: This study investigated differences in serum inflammatory profiles and circulating serum pneumoproteins between smokers with and without COPD. The results showed that systemic inflammation was associated with COPD, while some non-obstructed smokers demonstrated systemic inflammation. Only COPD was found to be associated with systemic inflammation among all identified risk factors.
