New-onset autoimmune phenomena post-COVID-19 vaccination

Yue Chen et al.

Summary: Autoimmune manifestations have been reported in response to certain COVID-19 vaccines, but it is still unclear whether there is a causal relationship. These reports can help guide the clinical assessment and management of autoimmune manifestations after vaccination.

New insights into the taxonomy of autoimmune diseases based on polyautoimmunity

Manuel Rojas et al.

Summary: This study explored a new taxonomy of ADs based on PolyA, finding that latent PolyA is more common than overt PolyA. The combination of autoantibodies allows high accuracy in the classification of ADs, and three distinct clusters based on PolyA were observed with unique clinical and immunological phenotypes.

Autoimmune phenomena following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination

Yuval Ishay et al.

Summary: Vaccines are seen as a potential solution to the COVID-19 pandemic, but widespread distribution has been hindered by concerns over side effects. In Israel, where a large percentage of the population has been vaccinated, cases of autoimmune conditions following vaccination have been observed, but they generally have mild symptoms requiring modest treatment.

Presence of Anti-MDA5 Antibody and Its Value for the Clinical Assessment in Patients With COVID-19: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Geng Wang et al.

Summary: Anti-MDA5 antibodies were found in a high percentage of COVID-19 patients, with higher titers correlating with severe disease and unfavorable outcomes. Early profiling of anti-MDA5 antibodies could help distinguish between severe and non-severe COVID-19 patients.

Anti-MDA5 antibody-positive dermatomyositis with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease: report of two cases

Asmita A. Mehta et al.

Summary: Two Indian women with anti-MDA5 antibody-positive myositis developed rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease without clinical features of myositis. Despite aggressive medical treatment, both patients succumbed to their illness. Anti-MDA5-antibody-positive dermatomyositis is characterized by amyopathic disease with rapidly progressive and fatal ILD.
