Crocus Sativus L. (Saffron) in Alzheimer's Disease Treatment: Bioactive Effects on Cognitive Impairment

Grazia D'Onofrio et al.

Summary: Research has shown that saffron and its compounds have a certain therapeutic effect and neuroprotective effect on cognitive impairment in patients with Alzheimer's disease, possibly by regulating glutamate levels, reducing oxidative stress, and modulating Aβ and tau protein aggregation. Further investigation is needed to consider saffron as a safer alternative in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
