Methanol electrooxidation on core-shell Ag@Pdx catalysts

Xiaobo Yang et al.

Summary: A series of Ag-core/Pd-shell catalysts were synthesized and it was found that the Ag@Pd-3 catalyst exhibited the best performance for the methanol oxidation reaction. This catalyst showed significantly higher mass activity and specific activity compared to a Pd/C catalyst, making it a promising candidate for high-performance DMFCs. Computational calculations indicated that the enhanced performance of the Ag@Pd-3 catalyst was due to a stronger adsorption of CH3OH and OH on the Pd active sites.

How Strain Alters CO2 Electroreduction on Model Cu(001) Surfaces

Taewoo Kim et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the influence of tensile strain on the selectivity of CO2 reduction towards higher value-added, multicarbon products. Tensile strain on the Cu(001) surface increases activity for multicarbon products by suppressing single-carbon products and enhancing CO insertion and hydrogenation. The shift in d-band center due to strain manipulation provides a valuable tool for the design of efficient CO2 electrocatalysts.

Copper-indium hydroxides derived electrocatalysts with tunable compositions for electrochemical CO2 reduction

Qixian Xie et al.

Summary: In this study, composition tunable Cu-In hydroxides were fabricated, and the composition effect on the selectivity of CO2 reduction products was investigated. It was found that increasing In content in the electrocatalysts shifted the selectivity from CO to formate. Furthermore, Cu-rich electrocatalysts mainly produced CO, while In-rich electrocatalysts selectively produced formate with high Faradaic efficiencies.

Elastic strain controlling the activity and selectivity of CO2 electroreduction on Cu overlayers

Minshu Du et al.

Summary: In this study, the elastic strain in Cu nanofilms was shown to significantly impact the activity and selectivity of CO2RR. Tensile strain improved the total CO2RR faradaic efficiency and favored CH4 generation, while compressive strain induced more available active sites for CO2 adsorption and resulted in higher faradaic efficiency towards the CO2RR. The mechanism of strain-controlled electrocatalytic performance was also revealed through DFT calculations.
