Assessment of Molybdenum and Antimony speciation in excavated rocks and soils from the Parisian basin using mineralogical and chemical analyses coupled to geochemical modelling

Maxime Brandely et al.

Summary: In the Parisian basin area, excavated soils from public works sites often contain trace elements contaminations, especially in Molybdenum (Mo) and Antimony (Sb), making them difficult to be re-used or disposed of in inert landfills according to French regulations. Iron oxides play a key role in the mobility of Mo and Sb, while celestite is identified as a major sink for Mo in carbonated samples.

Effect of soil amendments on molybdenum availability in mine affected agricultural soils

Xiaoqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated potential practical techniques for chemical immobilization of molybdenum (Mo) contaminated agricultural soils using up to six different amendments from four materials. The results showed that biosolids, water treatment residues, and magnetite were effective in reducing molybdenum extractability and uptake by plants in lightly and moderately contaminated soils.

Immobilization of molybdenum by alternative cementitious binders and synthetic C-S-H: An experimental and numerical study

Laura Diaz Caselles et al.

Summary: The study found that immobilizing molybdenum using three cementitious binders can effectively reduce pollution in excavated soils and lower soil disposal costs. The coprecipitation of powellite was identified as the dominant mechanism for molybdenum retention. Thermodynamic modeling showed that powellite is less stable in cementitious environments than expected.
