Crystal Defect Doping on Antiferromagnetic Topological Insulator Candidate EuMg2Bi2

Madalynn Marshall et al.

Summary: Defect doping by partially substituting the magnetic Eu2+ site with non-magnetic Ca2+ in EuMg2Bi2 resulted in discovery of two new phases and different magnetic behaviors. While Eu0.33Ca0.67Mg2Bi2 shows ferromagnetic behavior, Eu0.50Ca0.50Mg2Bi2 remains antiferromagnetic, with significant impact on electrical properties like negative magnetoresistance.

Magnetic and electronic structures of antiferromagnetic topological material candidate EuMg2Bi2

Madalynn Marshall et al.

Summary: EuMg2Bi2 has been investigated as an antiferromagnetic (AFM) topological semimetal candidate. The high-quality single crystals grown via a Bi flux were found to exhibit interesting electronic behavior potentially influenced by competing antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions, consistent with the calculated magnetic structure.

Robust Narrow-Gap Semiconducting Behavior in Square-Net La3Cd2As6

Mario M. Piva et al.

Summary: The study reports a new family of narrow-gap semiconductors R3Cd2As6 with a monoclinic superstructure and charge-density ordered state. Both La and Ce members show a substantial increase in resistivity with decreasing temperature, with La member's resistivity increasing by 13 orders of magnitude, indicating a remarkably clean semiconducting ground state. Light square-net materials within a 14/mmm parent structure are suggested to be promising clean narrow-gap semiconductors.

Narrow-gap semiconducting behavior in antiferromagnetic Eu11InSb9

S. S. Fender et al.

Summary: Eu11InSb9 exhibits a semiconducting ground state with a narrow band gap, shows three phase transitions and lacks colossal magnetoresistance. The absence of CMR is attributed to the smaller carrier density and the larger distance between Eu ions and In-Sb polyhedra in Eu11InSb9. The results suggest potential applications of Eu11InSb9 as a thermoelectric material or a long-wavelength detector.

Pressure effect on band inversion in AECd2As2 (AE = Ca, Sr, Ba)

Jonathan M. DeStefano et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that under ambient pressure, the nonmagnetic compounds AECd(2)As(2) are narrow band gap semiconductors, with SrCd2As2 having the smallest band gap. Application of negative pressure can reduce the band gap and induce band inversion, leading to the emergence of a pair of Dirac points along a specific direction.
