Theory of zero-field superconducting diode effect in twisted trilayer graphene

Harley D. Scammell et al.

Summary: In this study, the superconducting phase in a heterostructure of mirror-symmetric twisted trilayer graphene and WSe2 was found to exhibit a zero-field superconducting diode effect, which has been investigated and explained with a microscopic theory. The findings not only contribute to the understanding of the physics of trilayer graphene on WSe2, but also provide guidance for future experiments in spin-orbit-coupled graphene moire systems.

Correlated Insulating States and Transport Signature of Superconductivity in Twisted Trilayer Graphene Superlattices

Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a higher-order moire of moire superlattice in twisted trilayer graphene, showing correlated insulating states near the half filling of the moire superlattice at an extremely low carrier density, where zero-resistance transport behavior is also observed. The full-occupancy states are semimetallic and gapless, distinct from the twisted bilayer systems.

Tunable strongly coupled superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

Jeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Moire superlattices have become a platform for studying correlated physics and superconductivity with unprecedented tunability. This study on magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene reveals a better tunability of electronic structure and superconducting properties than magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, with implications for the understanding of strongly coupled superconductivity. The results suggest that the system can be electrically tuned close to the crossover to a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate, indicating the potential for revolutionizing applications of superconductivity.

Shuigang Xu et al.

Summary: The study of electronic transport properties of twisted monolayer-bilayer graphene reveals highly tunable van Hove singularities that can cause strong correlation effects under optimum conditions by changing the twist angle or applying an electric field. This demonstrates the potential for correlated insulating states in a structure of monolayer and bilayer graphene with a small twist between them.

Electric field-tunable superconductivity in alternating-twist magic-angle trilayer graphene

Zeyu Hao et al.

Summary: By constructing a van der Waals heterostructure with three stacked graphene layers at alternating twist angles, researchers observed tunable superconductivity at a specific twist angle. The superconducting regions are associated with flavor polarization of moire bands and are bounded by a van Hove singularity at high displacement fields, indicating unconventional moire superconductivity.

Electric-field-tunable electronic nematic order in twisted double-bilayer graphene

Rhine Samajdar et al.

Summary: Graphene-based moiré systems have shown a variety of correlated phenomena, with evidence of electronic nematic order in twisted bilayer graphene. Analysis reveals that contributions to the nematic order parameter primarily come from states at the moiré scale, indicating the crucial role of moiré degrees of freedom. Additionally, the orientation of the nematic director in twisted double-bilayer graphene can be tuned by an externally applied electric field, providing a route to electrostatic control of electronic nematicity in moiré systems.

Band structure and superconductivity in twisted trilayer graphene

Vo Tien Phong et al.

Summary: We studied the symmetries of twisted trilayer graphene's band structure under various extrinsic perturbations, and found that the electronic structure is modified by long-range electron-electron interactions in a similar way to twisted bilayer graphene. Electron pairing due to long-wavelength charge fluctuations coupled via the Coulomb interaction and additionally mediated by longitudinal acoustic phonons leads to superconducting phases with different symmetries, with critical temperatures up to a few Kelvin for realistic choices of parameters.
