Phenomenology of Spectral Functions in Disordered Spin Chains at Infinite Temperature

Lev Vidmar et al.

Summary: Recent research on disordered spin chains has focused on the relationship between exact numerical calculations and the existence of a many-body localization phase transition, particularly in cases where disorder is significantly greater than spin interaction strength. A phenomenological theory based on proximity to the noninteracting limit, such as the Anderson insulator, has been introduced to explain intriguing features observed in these systems. This theory quantitatively describes the dynamics of certain observables in finite interacting systems across a wide range of disorders.

Many-Body Delocalization as Symmetry Breaking

S. J. Garratt et al.

Summary: The study presents a framework where the transition between a many-body localized phase and an ergodic phase is achieved through symmetry breaking. It explores random Floquet spin chains and how their averaged spectral form factor is influenced by the leading eigenvalues of a transfer matrix. The research identifies broken symmetry within the transfer matrix and introduces a local order parameter for the transition, showing that long-ranged correlation functions are only present in the ergodic phase.

Polynomial filter dingonalization of large Floquet unitary operators

David J. Luitz

Summary: Periodically driven quantum many-body systems are essential for understanding nonequilibrium phenomena such as quantum chaos, thermalization, many-body localization, and time crystals. This paper introduces a Krylov space diagonalization method for obtaining exact eigenpairs of the unitary Floquet operator with high efficiency compared to existing methods, allowing for the study of larger systems with up to 20 qubits. The method is based on a complex polynomial spectral transformation that leads to rapid convergence of the Arnoldi algorithm.

Local resonances and parametric level dynamics in the many-body localized phase

S. J. Garratt et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of resonances on spectral properties in the many-body localized (MBL) phase by varying the disorder realization. It develops a theory for resonances and discusses the curvature distribution of energy levels, as well as the implications for low-frequency dynamics. Additionally, the study calculates the two-point correlator of the level density and explores the distributions of matrix elements of local observables.

Dynamical obstruction to localization in a disordered spin chain

Dries Sels et al.

Summary: We investigate a one-dimensional XXZ spin chain in a disordered magnetic field, utilizing the sensitivity of eigenstates and the low-frequency asymptotes of the spectral function to understand the system's behavior. We identify a region of maximal chaos with exponentially enhanced susceptibility, separating the many-body localized phase from the diffusive ergodic phase. This region exhibits slow transport characteristics, which we argue highly constrains any possible localization transition in the thermodynamic limit, suggesting an absence of the localized phase.

Slow delocalization of particles in many-body localized phases

Maximilian Kiefer-Emmanouilidis et al.

Summary: Through a detailed study of the number entropy SN(t), we find that in a many-body localized phase, the particle number distribution shows a continuously growing tail, indicating that the interacting system never fully localizes even under strong disorder. This behavior is not the result of rare states or regions, but rather represents typical behavior.
