Fuzzy assessment of the risk factors causing cost overrun in construction industry

Savita Sharma et al.

Summary: This study identified 55 important risk factors causing cost overrun in Indian construction projects through literature review and expert opinion. A new fuzzy based model was proposed to estimate the risk magnitude of these factors, and its applicability was shown using an example. The top ten factors recognized for causing cost overrun in the Indian construction industry include material price fluctuations, lowest bid procurement policy, and unrealistic contract duration.

Revisiting critical delay factors for construction: Analysing projects in Malaysia

Jeffrey Boon Hui Yap et al.

Summary: Delays in construction projects are a persistent issue globally, and this study contributes to the theory and practice of construction schedule management by identifying primary delay causes and underlying factors. Through a meta-analysis and field survey, the study prioritizes key causes such as lack of proper planning, change orders by clients, and inadequate site management, and identifies five principal managerial capabilities influencing schedule delays. This research provides valuable insights for the international construction community to reevaluate delay factors and realign project management strategies for timely project delivery.
