Effects of land-use change on herbaceous vegetation in a semi-arid Mopaneveld savanna

F. Siebert et al.

Summary: This study in the northeastern parts of South Africa examined the effects of land-use change on plant community diversity and function, finding that despite initial species loss, the savanna ecosystem is buffered against anthropogenic disturbances through functional stability. The results suggest that forb species play a key role in maintaining ecosystem stability in areas exposed to human disturbances.
