Highly efficient disinfection based on multiple enzyme-like activities of Cu3P nanoparticles: A catalytic approach to impede antibiotic resistance

Daiyong Chao et al.

Summary: Cu3P nanoparticles are efficient antibacterial agents that can effectively inhibit bacterial resistance. They can completely kill both sensitive and resistant strains of E. coli and S. aureus, as well as microbial populations in fishery water, within 30 minutes without regrowth. The antibacterial mechanism of Cu3P nanoparticles relies on their multiple enzyme-like activities, which generate ROS to deplete glutathione and induce lipid peroxidation. Unlike traditional antibiotics, Cu3P nanoparticles can delay the onset of bacterial resistance. Moreover, they have minimal toxicity to aquatic organisms and negligible side effects on mammalian tissues.

Effective Antibacterial Activity of Degradable Copper-Doped Phosphate-Based Glass Nanozymes

Yifan Liu et al.

Summary: Copper-containing antimicrobials are highly valuable in medical disinfectants due to their high antimicrobial efficacy. The Cu-PBG nanozyme exhibits excellent antibacterial effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by generating a ROS storm and releasing copper ions. Being intrinsically degradable, Cu-PBG gradually degrades in vivo and releases copper ions, showing excellent biocompatibility and potential for clinical translation.

Fiber-in-Tube Design of a CuFe2O4@Conducting Polymer with Synergistically Enhanced Peroxidase-like Activity for Total Antioxidant Capacity Assays

Wendong Zhu et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the fabrication of a hierarchical fiber-in-tube CuFe2O4@conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nanostructure with exceptional peroxidase-like performance. The prepared catalyst shows desirable long-term stability and is used for developing efficient sensors for ascorbic acid (AA) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in real samples. This approach offers a new method to construct efficient nanozymes and develop simple TAC assays with potential in biosensing and food technology.

Bamboo-Like Nanozyme Based on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanotubes Encapsulating Cobalt Nanoparticles for Wound Antibacterial Applications

Shaoying He et al.

Summary: An artificial nanozyme N-CNTs@Co with efficient oxidase-mimicking activity was developed in this study, showing a higher activity compared to iron-centered nanomaterials. It can catalyze oxygen to produce reactive oxygen species, leading to a favorable antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The nanozyme exhibited high antibacterial efficiency without the development of resistance in bacteria and was further confirmed in wound healing experiments in vivo.
