Tailoring quantum gases by Floquet engineering

Christof Weitenberg et al.

Summary: The freedom to manipulate quantum gases with external fields is ideal for studying many-body physics, and Floquet engineering using time-periodic modulations has expanded the range of accessible models and phenomena. Ultracold atoms in optical lattices provide a toolbox for designing various driving schemes, allowing for the study of the interplay between topology and interactions.

Doubly Modulated Optical Lattice Clock: Interference and Topology

Xiao-Tong Lu et al.

Summary: By modulating the frequency and Rabi frequency in an optical lattice clock system, the interference between two Floquet channels was observed, demonstrating the relation between the effective Floquet Hamiltonian and a one-dimensional topological insulator with a high winding number. This experiment not only provides a direction for detecting phase effects, but also paves the way for simulating quantum topological phases in the OLC platform.

Resolving the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in the two-dimensional XY model with tensor-network-based level spectroscopy

Atsushi Ueda et al.

Summary: In this study, the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition of the classical XY model was reinvestigated using a combination of tensor network renormalization and the level spectroscopy method based on the finite size scaling of the conformal field theory. By analyzing the spectrum of transfer matrices of various moderate sized systems, the critical point was determined with improved accuracy. The analysis also provided a visualization of the Kosterlitz renormalization group flow based on numerical data.

Percolation of the two-dimensional XY model in the flow representation

Bao-Zong Wang et al.

Summary: Through a worm-type algorithm, we simulate the two-dimensional XY model in flow representation and study the geometric properties of flow configurations. Increasing coupling strength leads to a percolation transition from a disordered phase to an ordered phase, exhibiting long-ranged order in flow connectivity in low-temperature phase. The percolation threshold is close to but smaller than the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition point, raising various interesting questions for classical and quantum systems.
