Unconventional materials: the mismatch between electronic charge centers and atomic positions

Jiacheng Gao et al.

Summary: The complete band representations have been constructed in the field of topological quantum chemistry. Unconventional materials with a mismatch between average electronic centers and atomic positions have been effectively diagnosed using elementary band representations. Through high-throughput screening, 423 unconventional compounds with diverse interesting properties and applications have been discovered.

Topological classification and diagnosis in magnetically ordered electronic materials

Bingrui Peng et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates that magnetic space group symmetries protect topological invariants and surface states that are different from nonmagnetic topological states. By constructing topological crystals using lower-dimensional building blocks, the complete topological classification of electron band insulators with significant spin-orbit coupling for each magnetic space group in three dimensions is obtained. The symmetry-based indicators are also computed, establishing the complete mapping from symmetry representations to topological invariants.

High-throughput screening for Weyl semimetals with S4 symmetry

Jiacheng Gao et al.

Summary: In this work, a new topological invariant x is proposed for diagnosing the Weyl semimetal phase, which can be easily computed through the one-dimensional Wilson-loop technique. By applying this method to high-throughput screening in first-principles calculations, numerous Weyl semimetals are predicted in both nonmagnetic and magnetic compounds. Various interesting properties are found in the predicted Weyl semimetals, providing realistic platforms for future experimental study of the interplay between Weyl fermions and other exotic states.

Magnetic topological quantum chemistry

Luis Elcoro et al.

Summary: The authors extended Topological Quantum Chemistry to magnetic space groups, forming a complete theory of band topology in magnetic and nonmagnetic crystalline solids. They derived small corepresentations, momentum stars, compatibility relations, and magnetic elementary band corepresentations for 1,421 magnetic space groups, and identified symmetry-based indicators of electronic band topology.

Irvsp: To obtain irreducible representations of electronic states in the VASP

Jiacheng Gao et al.

Summary: The open-source program irvsp computes irreducible representations for electronic states in all 230 space groups, using wavefunctions and space group operators generated by the Vienna ab-initio Simulation Package. It can handle spin-orbit coupling and is useful for analyzing energy bands, their connectivities, and band topology. The program has been extended to orthogonal tight-binding Hamiltonians and a sister program is also available.

Topological correspondence between magnetic space group representations and subdimensions

Adrien Bouhon et al.

Summary: Recent years have witnessed rapid progress in the classification of topological materials, especially within the context of magnetic structures. Research has revealed a systematic correspondence between a certain class of electronic configurations within antiferromagnetic-compatible space groups that are necessarily topological and nontrivial topological ferro/ferrimagnetic counterparts obtained through physically motivated perturbations.

Subdimensional topologies, indicators, and higher order boundary effects

Gunnar F. Lange et al.

Summary: The study of topological band structures has seen significant interest in the past decade, leading to the development of rich classification schemes. A recent report focuses on unexplored topological structures based on subdimensional topology, which show stable or fragile topologies within subdimensional spaces. These structures in three spatial dimensions exhibit characteristics such as Weyl nodes and Fermi arcs that can be systematically predicted by subdimensional analysis.
