Optimization and validation of direct gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for simultaneous quantification of ten short-chain acids in rat feces

Jin-Hao Zhu et al.

Summary: Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) play important roles in maintaining health and treating disease. A direct gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was developed in this study for simultaneous quantification of ten SCFAs, including formic acid, in rat feces. The method was optimized and successfully applied to compare the content of SCFAs in feces between normal and immunosuppressed animal models.

Comparative study of the laxative effects of konjac oligosaccharides and konjac glucomannan on loperamide-induced constipation in rats

Mengmeng Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that compared to konjac glucomannan (KGM), konjac oligosaccharides (KOS) had a better laxative effect at a low dosage, potentially through regulating the stem cell factors (SCF)/c-kit signaling pathway and increasing mucus secretion. KOS was suggested to be more beneficial for alleviating constipation.

Effect of konjac glucomannan on metabolites in the stomach, small intestine and large intestine of constipated mice and prediction of the KEGG pathway

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that Konjac glucomannan (KGM) can improve constipation in mice by regulating the levels of certain metabolites and metabolic pathways. Specifically, KGM supplementation impacted amino acid biosynthesis, linoleic acid metabolism, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, and arachidonic acid metabolism signalling pathways.
