Interfacial electronic modulation by Fe2O3/NiFe-LDHs heterostructures for efficient oxygen evolution at high current density

Cheng-Fei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, flower-like nanosheets with Fe2O3/NiFe-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) heterointerfaces were fabricated, showing superior catalytic activity for OER at industrial grade current density. The research attributes the superior electrocatalytic performance to the optimized electronic configuration and promoted interfacial electron transfer of Fe2O3/NiFe-LDHs heterointerfaces.

Delicate Control on the Shell Structure of Hollow Spheres Enables Tunable Mass Transport in Water Splitting

Ping Hou et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel method to regulate the shell structures of hollow multishell structures, transforming the shells from solid to bubble-like and replicating them with narrow spacing through a simple phosphorization process. The fabricated CoP HoMSs with closely duplicated shells exhibit superior electrocatalytic performance in the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction, benefitting from the unbalanced Laplace pressure for increased gas release and enhanced capillary force for accelerated liquid transfer.

Dynamically Stable Active Sites from Surface Evolution of Perovskite Materials during the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Pietro P. Lopes et al.

Summary: Perovskite oxides exhibit OER activity due to the interaction between a thin surface layer of Co hydr(oxy)oxide and trace-level Fe species in the electrolyte, leading to the creation of dynamically stable active sites. This surface evolution process driven by A-site dissolution and O-vacancy creation improves stability and activity-stability factor for CoOxHy/LSCO compared to nanoscale Co-hydr(oxy)oxide clusters.

Cation-Dependent Interfacial Structures and Kinetics for Outer-Sphere Electron-Transfer Reactions

Botao Huang et al.

Summary: This study shows that the identity of spectator cation species can influence the solvation properties and ET kinetics of the redox species, with a trend of increasing solvent reorganization energy as cationic radius decreases. The presence of less charge density cations such as Cs+ can promote weaker hydrogen bonds and lower the effective interfacial static dielectric constant in the redox solvation shell, impacting reaction thermodynamics and rates in electrochemical processes.

Improving the Catalytic Efficiency of NiFe-LDH/ATO by Air Plasma Treatment for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Lei Chong et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized NiFe-LDH/ATO composite catalyst using antimony-doped tin oxide as conductive support. The vacancy-rich NiFe-LDH/ATO-air plasma showed better electrocatalytic performance compared to the less vacancy-containing NiFe-LDH/ATO after mild air plasma treatment.

pH- and Cation-Dependent Water Oxidation on Rutile RuO2(110)

Reshma R. Rao et al.

Summary: Noncovalent interactions at electrified interfaces play a key role in enhancing the activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The study showed that OER activity on RuO2(110) in alkaline solutions is dependent on cations, with the highest activity observed in 0.1 M KOH. The molecular details of the interface as a function of potential and electrolyte provide insights for the design of more active electrochemical interfaces.
