Observationally driven Galactic double white dwarf population for LISA

Valeriya Korol et al.

Summary: This study aims to construct an observationally driven population model of the Galactic double white dwarf (DWD) population. Through statistical analysis of two large spectroscopic samples, the research finds that observationally driven estimates yield more individually detectable DWDs than traditional binary population synthesis methods, and the shape of the DWD confusion foreground is also significantly different. These results have important implications for the LISA mission.

Ab initio thermodynamics of one-component plasma for astrophysics of white dwarfs and neutron stars

D. A. Baiko et al.

Summary: In this study, energy of a crystal in a range of temperature and density was calculated using path-integral Monte Carlo simulations. The results were approximated by analytic formulas to obtain various thermodynamic functions. It was demonstrated that the crystal's specific heat can exceed the harmonic lattice contribution by 1.5 times.

Current status of space gravitational wave antenna DECIGO and B-DECIGO

Seiji Kawamura et al.

Summary: DECIGO is a future Japanese space mission aimed at detecting primordial gravitational waves and has other scientific objectives such as measuring the acceleration of the expansion of the Universe and predicting neutron star/black hole binary coalescences. DECIGO consists of four clusters of observatories placed in heliocentric orbit, with each cluster containing three spacecraft forming interferometers with a 1000 km arm length.

Concepts and status of Chinese space gravitational wave detection projects

Yungui Gong et al.

Summary: The concepts and development milestones of the two Chinese space-based gravitational wave observatories, TianQin and Taiji, are introduced. Possible collaborations among them are discussed, considering their similar goals and operation window with LISA. Both facilities, planned to be launched in the 2030s, are complementary to LISA and aim to improve GW source localization and characterization.

Measuring individual masses of binary white dwarfs with space-based gravitational-wave interferometers

Anna Wolz et al.

Summary: The almost monochromatic gravitational waves from binary white dwarfs pose challenges in measuring their individual masses. A novel approach utilizing finite-size effects and universal relations has been developed to measure white dwarf masses with Laser Interferometer Space Antenna. Quasi-universal relations among mass, moment of inertia, and tidal deformability of white dwarfs were discovered, allowing for accurate individual mass measurements through Fisher analysis.

Neutron star crust in Voigt approximation: general symmetry of the stress-strain tensor and an universal estimate for the effective shear modulus

Andrey Chugunov

Summary: In this study, the elastic properties of neutron star crust in the static Coulomb solid model were discussed, treating atomic nuclei as non-vibrating point charges and neglecting electron screening. The results are also relevant for solidified white dwarf cores and other materials that can be modeled as Coulomb solids. The study demonstrates that the Coulomb part of the stress-strain tensor exhibits additional symmetry and does not depend on the structure or composition of the material.
