Registration-based semi-automatic assessment of aortic diameter growth rate from contrast-enhanced computed tomography outperforms manual quantification

Lydia Dux-Santoy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the accuracy and inter-observer reproducibility of registration-based and manual assessment of aortic diameters and growth rates. The results showed that the registration-based technique presented low bias and excellent agreement for aortic diameters, and good agreement and much higher inter-observer reproducibility for growth rates compared to manual assessment. The mapping of diameter and growth rate was highly reproducible in the whole thoracic aorta.

Wall Shear Stress Predicts Aortic Dilation in Patients With Bicuspid Aortic Valve

Andrea Guala et al.

Summary: This study assessed the predictive value of wall shear stress (WSS) for the growth rate (GR) of the ascending aorta (AAo) in patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). The results showed a positive correlation between WSS and its circumferential component with AAo GR. Therefore, the evaluation of WSS may be helpful in the follow-up of these patients.

Aortic flow dynamics and stiffness in Loeys-Dietz syndrome patients: a comparison with healthy volunteers and Marfan syndrome patients

Aroa Ruiz-Munoz et al.

Summary: Aortic stiffness is higher in Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) patients, with reduced rotational flow and abnormal wall shear stress compared to healthy volunteers (HV). However, LDS patients showed similar aortic stiffness and overlapping aortic flow features when compared to Marfan syndrome (MFS) patients.

Geometric, Biomechanic and Haemodynamic Aortic Abnormalities Assessed by 4D Flow Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Patients Treated by TEVAR Following Blunt Traumatic Thoracic Aortic Injury

Daniel Gil-Sala et al.

Summary: This study found that patients treated with TEVAR following BTAI had abnormalities in thoracic aortic geometry, stiffness, and hemodynamics. These abnormalities included increased diameter, length, and volume of the ascending aorta, as well as altered flow patterns in the whole thoracic aorta compared to healthy controls.
