Manipulation of charge carrier flow in Bi4NbO8Cl nanoplate photocatalyst with metal loading

Kanta Ogawa et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates orthogonal carrier flow and spatial charge separation in layered compound Bi4NbO8Cl through the deposition of a Rh cocatalyst at the edges of nanoplates, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activity. The experimental and theoretical studies suggest that lighter photogenerated electrons can travel along the plane and be trapped by the cocatalyst, while the remaining holes hopperpendicular to the plane due to the anisotropic crystal geometry.
