Alpha-gamma decay studies of 247Md

F. P. Hessberger et al.

Summary: The study focused on the alpha decay and spontaneous fission processes of Md-247, with specific emphasis on identifying the ground-state of the daughter nucleus Es-243. By measuring alpha-gamma coincidences, an improved decay scheme for Md-247 was proposed. The spontaneous fission half-lives of Md-247g and (247m)Md were determined, and the fission hindrance between the high spin ground-state (7/2(-)) and the low spin isomeric state (1/2(-)) was estimated.

Fission properties of 253Rf and the stability of neutron-deficient Rf isotopes

A. Lopez-Martens et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the fission properties of 253Rf and their impact on the stability of other neutron-deficient isotopes. New and improved data collected from experiments performed at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions in Dubna, Russia were used. The results confirm the existence of two fissioning states in 253Rf and indicate a decrease in fission half-life with the removal of neutrons.

Spontaneous fission instability of the neutron-deficient No and Rf isotopes: The new isotope 249No

J. Khuyagbaatar et al.

Summary: The instability of atomic nuclei in the heaviest elements leads to shorter nuclear half-lives, with the analysis showing a potential decrease in half-lives of unknown neutron-deficient Rf isotopes. Experimental data on the decay of (253)Rf revealed two different fission activities and an alpha decay followed by the formation of a new isotope No-249. Based on the new data, no abrupt decreases in half-lives of the neutron-deficient No and Rf isotopes are expected, aligning with theoretical predictions. The fission half-lives of (253)Rf's two different states serve as benchmark cases for theoretical descriptions of the influence of single-particle orbitals on the fission process.

Isomeric states in 256Rf

J. Khuyagbaatar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the number and origin of isomeric states in (256)Rf by measuring conversion electrons, uncovering the presence of two isomeric states with determined half-lives. Results show that these isomeric states have high population rates, similar to other isomeric states in the region.
