Pilot-scale study on flue gas moisture recovery in a coal-fired power plant

Chao Cheng et al.

Summary: The exhaust gas from coal-fired power plants with desulfurization towers contains a lot of water vapor, recovering water from flue gas is essential for water conservation and sustainable development. Experimental research on a transport membrane condenser using a 1 μm pore-sized ceramic membrane was conducted at a coal-fired power plant, and it was found that the longitudinal tube spacing has an impact on water recovery and total heat transfer coefficient under high cooling water temperatures.

Macroporous ceramic membrane condenser for water and heat recovery from flue gas

Liehui Xiao et al.

Summary: In this study, the heat and mass transfer mechanisms of a macroporous ceramic membrane condenser (MCMC) were experimentally analyzed, revealing that the condensation rate is the key factor affecting water recovery performance. The thermal resistance was found to be concentrated at the gas side in MCMC. Experimental results showed that the Sherwood numbers of the membrane were larger than the predicted values, possibly due to the hydrophilic properties of the membrane surface. Additionally, operating conditions had a significant impact on water and heat recovery performance in the MCMC system.

State-space model for transient behavior of transport membrane condenser

Yu Yang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a state-space model of a transport membrane condenser (TMC) based on a lumped heat and mass transfer model is developed and experimentally verified. It is found that the perturbation of the flue gas flow rate has a larger effect on the heat and water recovery performances compared to that of the inlet flue gas humidity ratio. The inlet water parameters also have significant effects on the performances.
