Additionally, we synthesized a catalytically active organometallic Co(III) species, giving us deeper insights into the catalytic mechanism.

Regioselective 1,2-carbosulfenylation of unactivated alkenes via directed nickel catalysis

Summary: In this study, a bidentate directing group-assisted Ni-catalyzed three component 1,2-carbosulfenylation reaction was reported, which allows for the transformation of unactivated alkenes using aryl/alkenylboronic acids and disulfide electrophiles. The reaction showed high levels of chemo- and regioselectivity and could introduce a wide range of aryl groups and sulfur moieties into homoallylic amines. Notably, it also enabled the synthesis of α,gamma-dibranched thiolamines with high diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity.

A directing group switch in copper-catalyzed electrophilic C-H amination/migratory annulation cascade: divergent access to benzimidazolone/benzimidazole

Summary: In this study, a copper-catalyzed tandem reaction was developed for the synthesis of N,N-disubstituted 2-benzimidazolinones, involving C-H and C-C bond cleavage and three new C-N bond formations. The reaction cascade could be altered by tuning the directing group. The strategy achieved moderate to high yields with low catalyst loading and provided a series of benzimidazolones and benzimidazoles.

Summary: A cobalt-catalyzed direct CH carbonylative reaction of N-(2-(1H-indol-1-yl)phenyl)picolinamides for the synthesis of (NH)-indolo[1,2-a]quinoxalin-6(5H)-one skeletons has been developed. Various free (NH)-indolo[1,2-a]quinoxalin-6(5H)-ones were obtained in good yields (up to 88%) using benzene-1,3,5-triyl triformate (TFBen) as the CO source and picolinamide as the traceless directing group. Additionally, a series of product derivatizations were demonstrated, and the core fragment of PARP-1 inhibitor C can be readily constructed by this protocol.

Cobalt-Catalyzed C(sp2)-H Carbonylation of Amino Acids Using Picolinamide as a Traceless Directing Group

Summary: An efficient protocol for the C(sp(2))-H carbonylation of amino acid derivatives based on an inexpensive cobalt(II) salt catalyst is reported. The method utilizes picolinamide as a traceless directing group and Co(dpm)(2) as the catalyst, allowing for a broad range of phenylalanine derivatives bearing diverse functional groups to be tolerated. Moreover, the method can be successfully applied for the C(sp(2))-H carbonylation of short peptides, enabling access for peptide late-stage carbonylation.

Rh(II)-Catalyzed C-H Alkylation of Benzylamines with Unactivated Alkenes: The Influence of Acid on Linear and Branch Selectivity

Summary: The Rh-catalyzed C-H alkylation of benzylamine derivatives with unactivated 1-alkenes using a picolinamide directing group was reported. Aromatic acids led to high linear selectivity, while aliphatic acids favored branched alkylation products. Deuterium labeling experiments showed involvement of a Rh-carbene intermediate in linear product formation, with a different reaction pathway observed for branched products.

Copper-Catalyzed Intermolecular C(sp2)-H Amination with Electrophilic O-Benzoyl Hydroxylamines

Summary: The copper-catalyzed intermolecular electrophilic amination of benzamides with O-benzoyl hydroxylamines was successfully achieved with the assistance of an 8-aminoquinolyl group, showing good compatibility with various aryl amides and heteroaryl amides as well as excellent tolerance to different functional groups. The monoaminated product was predominantly obtained under simple reaction conditions, and preliminary mechanistic investigations suggested C-H activation to potentially be the rate-determining step.

Merging Photoredox Catalysis with Transition Metal Catalysis: Direct C4-H Sulfamidation of 1-Naphthylamine Derivatives

Summary: This study successfully achieved the C4-H sulfamidation of 1-naphthylamine derivatives with NHSI catalyzed by copper(I) under mild conditions, yielding moderate to good results. Control experiments suggested that the visible-light-promoted reaction might proceed through a single-electron-transfer process, and preliminary DFT studies on intermediates supported the plausible mechanism, with the C4 site in the naphthyl ring identified as the most likely electrophilic reactive site.

Synthesis of medicinally relevant oxalylamines via copper/Lewis acid synergistic catalysis

Summary: Allylamines are valuable synthons due to their excellent reactivity in organic synthesis. An efficient amination reaction of allenyl ethers has been developed using copper/Lewis acid synergistic catalysis, providing access to diverse functionalized oxalylamines with high yields and selectivities. The method tolerates over 100 examples, including late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules, and allows for gram-scale synthesis of oxalylamines under mild conditions with high turnover number. The applicability of the protocol is further demonstrated through the construction of drug molecules.
