Factors Contributing to Exercise Intolerance in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation

Adrian D. Elliott et al.

Summary: Reduced exercise capacity in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients is associated with elevated left ventricular filling pressure and reduced chronotropic response rather than rhythm status. Subjectively reported exercise intolerance is not a sensitive assessment of reduced exercise capacity.

Practical Recommendations for High-Intensity Interval Training for Adults with Cardiovascular Disease

Kimberley L. Way et al.

Summary: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can be safely applied to patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) after assessing exercise responses, involving patients in the decision-making process, and using short duration high-intensity bouts to increase exercise tolerance and self-efficacy. Equal or greater active or passive recoveries between high-intensity intervals are recommended, with passive recoveries avoided in case of vasovagal symptoms/events.
