Subjective Cognitive Decline: Level of Risk for Future Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment, a Meta-Analysis of Longitudinal Studies

Kerryn E. Pike et al.

Summary: Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD) is associated with an increased risk of developing dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Factors such as worry in the SCD definition, younger age, and recruitment source impact the risk of developing MCI, while they have little influence on the risk of developing dementia. Further research is needed to identify effective interventions for risk reduction and cognitive management in individuals with SCD.

Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Outcome after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury in Older People

Camilla H. Hume et al.

Summary: A systematic review of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in older adults aged 60 and above found that older adults may experience cognitive difficulties but do not have elevated levels of psychological distress post-injury. Additionally, a meta-analysis suggests that a large proportion of older adults can achieve good functional recovery at 6 months or later post-injury, similar to younger adults. Individual studies using alternative measures show more mixed rates of recovery in terms of life participation. Further research is urgently needed in this under-researched demographic to ensure adequate health service provision.
