Graphdiyne-supported single-cluster electrocatalysts for highly efficient carbon dioxide reduction reaction

Pingji Ge et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrocatalytic performance of TM3@GDY catalysts for CO2RR was investigated using DFT calculations. It was found that Cr-3@GDY exhibited the best catalytic performance with a low rate-limiting step and the ability to effectively suppress the HER. The high catalytic performance of Cr-3@GDY was attributed to the strong synergistic reaction of three Cr atoms interacting with the C atom.

Protecting the state of Cu clusters and nanoconfinement engineering over hollow mesoporous carbon spheres for electrocatalytical C-C coupling

Yue Pan et al.

Summary: This article investigates the use of hollow mesoporous carbon spheres (HMCS) to confine and protect copper clusters, aiming to achieve high selectivity of C-2 products in CO2 electroreduction reactions. The experimental results demonstrate that when 20% of copper clusters are confined by HMCS, the selectivity of C-2 products reaches 88.7%.

The active site of ethanol formation from syngas over Cu4 cluster modified MoS2 catalyst: A theoretical investigation

Jiawang Chen et al.

Summary: Using DFT method, the reaction mechanism of ethanol formation over the Cu-4/MoS2 catalyst was explored, and it was found that CO is first hydrogenated to formyl, which is further dissociated to form CH2 leading to the formation of ethanol. The Cu-4 cluster provides undissociated CO and CHO, while the interface between Cu-4 and MoS2 promotes the process of ethanol synthesis.

Enhanced Methanol Electro-Oxidation Activity of Nanoclustered Gold

Anupam Yadav et al.

Summary: Size-selected 3 nm gas-phase Au clusters deposited via cluster beam deposition on a conducting fluorine-doped tin oxide template exhibit a strong enhancement in mass activity for the methanol electro-oxidation reaction compared to previously reported nanostructured gold electrodes. The high MEO activity is attributed to the high density of exposed under-coordinated Au atoms on their faceted surface, with vertices and edges being the most active sites due to their favorable CO and OH adsorption energies. The faceted structures in this size range, partly retained during deposition, may also protect against destructive restructuring during the oxidation-reduction cycle.

Architectural Design for Enhanced C2 Product Selectivity in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Using Cu-Based Catalysts: A Review

Changlong Xiao et al.

Summary: Electrochemical conversion of CO2 to value-added chemicals and fuels using Cu catalysts has shown promising potential, but poor product selectivity remains a major technical challenge for global applications. Tailoring the electrocatalyst architecture through nanotechnology principles can significantly impact the adsorption energetics of key intermediates and reaction pathways.
